Meet Tigist Yospeh Ron

Tigist was born in 1977 in Gandar, Ethiopia and immigrated to Israel in 1984. She lives and works in Ra’anana.  Tigist is the recipient of the prestigious Haim Schiff Prize for Figurative-Realist Art, the award is accompanied by a solo exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.  As we view her works her personal story will unfold.  The difficult journey through Sudan, the arrival to a new country and the struggles of integrating into Israeli society.  Reoccurring themes in her artwork include racism, motherhood and femininity. She exclusively creates drawings using charcoal.  Tigist will explain the significance of her chosen medium and how it plays out in sharp contrast with the white walls of the museum, to which she reflects and explains, “Look where I have arrived despite the black color, or maybe because of it.”
