June 25, 2025 – In a powerful show of solidarity, Tel Aviv-Yafo Mayor Ron Huldai visited Reuth Rehabilitation Hospital Tel Aviv to meet with staff and patients and express his support during this time of national upheaval. The visit underscored Reuth’s critical role in Israel’s wartime recovery, as the hospital prepares to receive a growing number of civilians and soldiers injured in the recent 12-Day War with Iran, which resulted in over 500 wounded to date.

Accompanied by Reuth Director Dr. Orit Stein Reisner, Reuth Association Chairman Prof. Nachman Ash, and CEO Ido Sharir, Mayor Huldai toured the hospital, spoke with medical staff, and personally checked in with patients undergoing rehabilitation.

“In this complex and difficult time, when many security forces and citizens are in need of physical and mental rehabilitation, Reuth is an anchor of hope and mission,” said Mayor Huldai. “During my visit, I met the residents of my city who find a professional and respectful response here. This is an opportunity to express deep appreciation for the professional and humane work of the medical teams, who work tirelessly and with inspiring dedication for the patients. The Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality is proud to collaborate with Reuth and jointly promote the establishment of the new rehabilitation campus in the Sde Dov neighborhood—essential infrastructure that will provide a solution for the future of rehabilitation medicine in the State of Israel.”

Reuth continues to operate under emergency conditions while providing uninterrupted care to patients from across the country. In recent days, three of the hospital’s employees were evacuated from their homes due to missile attacks—including two from the main hospital team and one from Beit Shalom retirement center. In addition, Reuth opened its doors to a displaced civilian from Bat Yam, offering refuge in its community housing after their home was destroyed.

“This war has reminded us not only of our national resilience—but also of the very real vulnerabilities we face,” said Dr. Orit Stein Reisner. “While Reuth has protected rooms and shelters, our current campus was built in the 1960s. The greatest challenge is protecting patients who cannot be moved quickly, such as those undergoing complex rehabilitation. That’s why the new facility we are planning at Sde Dov is so essential.”

Today, 50% of geriatric hospital patients in Israel are housed in non-secure facilities. The future Reuth campus will be fully fortified and purpose-built to meet modern rehabilitation needs, ensuring the safety and dignity of all patients—even in times of conflict.

“Our medical teams, many of whom have loved ones serving on the front lines, continue to show extraordinary commitment,” said Prof. Nachman Ash. “This crisis has made the need for a new, safe, and modern rehabilitation campus more urgent than ever.”

Reuth Association CEO Ido Sharir added, “The mayor’s visit carries deep meaning for our entire team. The gaps in our current infrastructure highlight just how critical our joint effort with the municipality is. Together, we are working to build a safer future for every patient who comes through our doors.”
